Orompoto....

*OROMPOTO*

Orompoto (also spelled Oronpoto) was a female Alaafin of Oyo, a Yoruba empire.
The empire of which she ruled is located in what is modern day western and north-central Nigeria.

Orompoto/Oronpoto

*Alaafin of Oyo*

Orompoto was the sister of her predecessor, Eguguojo. She became the first woman to become "king" of the Oyo in the imperial era, and the first woman since the pre-imperial ruler Yeyeori. Orompoto assumed the throne because there was no male successor within her family at the time. She helped drive the Nupe from Oyo in 1555. Orompoto lived in the 16th-century.

Orompoto was the second Oyo monarch to reign in the new capital of Igboho. Some traditions of the oral record hold that she was miraculously transformed into a man before assuming the throne there.

Orompoto used horses extensively in military battles and may have obtained them from Borgu. She was reportedly masterfully skilled on horseback, and created a specialized order of cavalry officers within her army that were subject to the Eso Ikoyi. The first of its kind, the cavalry was a force to be reckoned with in the various wars with Oyo's enemies. Considered a skillful warrior herself, she is said to have distinguished herself at the battle of Illayi. While fighting her enemies there, she lost three war chiefs in quick succession, titleholders that are known as Gbonkas in Oyo. The third of them is believed to have fallen with his face locked in an unnerving grin. The enemies thought that he was still alive and was making a mocking gesture, and were overwhelmed by what they considered to be their inability to best the Oyo gbonkas. They abandoned the battlefield thereafter, and the Oyo later claimed victory.

She was succeeded by Ajiboyede.

Queen Ooni Luwoo

Queen Lúwo Gbàgìdá, the first and only female Ooni of Ife Queen Lúwo Gbàgìdá, the first…

*OONI LUWOO*

Ooni Luwoo was the 21st Ooni of Ife, a paramount traditional ruler of Ile Ife, the ancestral home of the Yorubas. She succeeded Ooni Giesi and was succeeded by Ooni Lumobi.

QUEEN LUWOO, FIRST FEMALE OONI OF IFE

The first and only female Ooni of Ife.
Queen Luwoo Gbagidi was a woman way ahead of her time who reigned as the Ooni of Ife and also the most predominant supreme ruler of Yoruba land. As history would have it, she was a woman of enormous beauty, who derived great joy from her good looks. Although, history has not been kind to her because it was thought that men had always occupied the esteemed stool. This is due to the fact that Nigerian history is passed down orally which can lead to negation in the list of Oonis’.

*Her Legacy*
In some records, she is called the Lúwo Gbàgìdá, an offspring of Otaataa from Owode compound, Okerewe. According to oral tradition, she was married to Chief Ọbalọran of Ilode and became the mother of Adekola Telu, the founder of Iwo town. After the demise of Ooni Giesi, she was the first and only female to take up the crown as Ooni. Ooni Luwo being a beautiful woman and deriving great joy in her physical appearance and that of her surroundings, kept the townspeople i.e. men and women of Ife on their toes by ensuring they partook in keeping their environment well groomed and serene.

Due to the fact she did not enjoy walking on bare soil, she commissioned the creation of uncommon pavements (now owned by the Ife Museum) and various open-air courtyards paved with shreds of pottery to adorn her environment and any other Yoruba town she paid a visit to. This was also used to punish law breakers as the paved the streets of Ile-Ife with quartz pebbles and broken pottery. The miscreants were commanded to bake the clay, and later on use their bare hands to break it into pieces and afterwards lay it on the floor for the queen to walk on. Among all these, she was also said to be filled with terror and feared especially by the men. She was known to dislike lazy men who broke her laws and was a nightmare to slackers. There was no difference between slave and “child.” Everyone was treated the same way. The elders of the land saw her as being “uncontrollable” and “high-handed.” As a result of this, when her reign had ended, the council of Obas had a meeting and promised never to make a woman the Ooni of Ife ever again.

Ooni Luwoo though given negative labels by her council of chiefs still assisted her son Adekola Tolu to create the city of Iwo, which resulted in making him the first Oluwo of Iwo.

keep your leg strong during your old age....

*-KEEP YOUR LEGS STRONG-DURING YOUR OLD AGE*

*When we are old, our feet must always remain strong.*

*When a man ages, he should not be afraid of his hair turning white (or) his skin sagging (or) wrinkles*

*Among the signs of longevity, as summarized by the US magazine "Prevention", *strong leg muscles are listed on the top of the list.*

When you do not move your legs for two weeks  your leg strength will decrease by 10 years*

*A study from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark found that both old and young, during two weeks of inactivity, leg muscle strength got weakened by a third, which is equivalent to 20-30 years of ageing.*

*As your leg muscles weaken, it will take a long time to recover, even if you do rehabilitation exercises later.*

*Therefore, regular exercise like walking, is very important.*

*The whole body pressure is on your legs.*

*1.The foot is the pillar bearing the burden of the human body.  50% of a person's bones and 50% of the muscles, are in the two legs.*

*The largest and strongest joints and bones of the human body are also in the legs*.

*"Strong bones, strong muscles, and flexible joints form the "Iron Triangle" that carries the most important load on the human body."*

*70% of human activity and burning of energy in one's life, is done by the two feet.*

*Did you know this ??*

*When a person is young, his thighs have enough strength to lift a small car !!*

*2. The foot is the center of body locomotion.*

*Both the legs together have 50% of the nerves of the human body, 50% of the blood vessels and 50% of the blood flowing through them.  It is the large circulatory network that connects the body.*

*Only when the feet are healthy then the convention current of blood runs smoothly, so people who have strong leg muscles will definitely have a strong heart.*

*3. Aging starts from the feet upwards.*

*As a person gets older, the accuracy and speed of  transmission of instructions between the  the brain and the legs decreases, unlike when a person is young.*

*In addition, the so-called *Bone-fertilizer Calcium*will sooner or later be lost with the passage of time, making the elderly more prone to Bone fractures*

*Fractures in the elderly easily trigger a series of diseases, especially fatal diseases such as brain thrombosis.*

*Do you know that 15% of elderly patients will die within a year of a thigh-bone fracture* !!

*Exercising the legs, is never too late, even after the age of 60 years*

*Although our feet will gradually age with time, exercising our feet is a life-long task.  Only by strengthening the legs, can one prevent further aging*

*Please walk for at least 30-40 minutes a day, to ensure that your legs receive sufficient exercise and to ensure that your leg muscles remain Healthy*

empire of wilderness and terror...

*Empire Of Wilderness And Terror: Inside Rugu Forest Where Hundreds Of Schoolboys Are Being Held*

 *By Habibu Umar Aminu*

 *December 15, 2020*

_Following the abductions of hundreds of Katsina schoolboys on Friday by bandits in Kankara Local Government, attention has turned to Rugu Forest, an expanse of woods, hills and caves where bandits terrorising the northwest have found a safe haven. Our sources tell us the nature of the forest and reveal, for the first time, the name of one of the bandit kings who have carved an empire in the wilderness of Katsina._

The dreaded Rugu Forest that serves as hideout for bandits terrorising, Katsina, Zamfara and Kaduna states is estimated to span over 220km, stretching from the Niger Republic and spreading into a substantial part of Katsina State of Nigeria.

In Katsina, the forest cuts across the seven local governments of Jibia, Safana, Batsari, Danmusa, Sabuwa, Dandume, Faskari. In each of the place it passes, it is called by a different name but generally, it is called Rugu, after a community in Safana LGA.

An elderly man who knows the terrain very well told our reporter that the forest has been partitioned by bandits who control different segments.

“The forest has six ranges, four of which are in our domain. The forest boasts of several water outlets and streams. There are 18 dams that were established since the late Sardauna’s time,” he said.

“Our side of the forest is controlled by one Ado Sarki. He rules like a ‘god’ and just recently married a 14th wife,” he said.

The said Sarki lives on a hill from where he governs his empire of wilderness and directs his boys as he pleases. Recently, he released some abducted persons who had stayed with him for two months.

“The Dutsen Rugu is a rocky hill that when you climb it, you can spot its peer, Dutsen Kwatarkwashi, in far away Gusau, Zamfara State. That is where he camped kidnapped persons,” the source said.

One abductee, Alhaji Abu Jakarare, who recently regained freedom after ransom was paid, said he left behind up to 100 people in different holding areas on the hill.

“They have guns, different types. Every day, they slaughter about seven cows for their upkeep, he told us. They have disturbed us for long. From here to Zamfara, we are all victims of his activities,” he said.

“There are different camps, with different leaderships each controlling areas of jurisdiction that they shared among themselves. They sometimes fight among themselves as well,” he added

On the possibility of such significant numbers of people being abducted and kept therein, the source said, “The forest has several hills and caves and several water outlets and they farm and do everything like normal human beings.”

“The thing is that they share kidnapped people among themselves, they don’t keep them in one place. Many hideouts, places along water routes, they have settlements all there,” he said.

“The time they took 20 of our people, they kept them there for over 80 days. They told us they lived along River Zobe water outlets, Zurmi water also. These are places they stay along streams in the forest and the hills. I assure you, even if you strike at this Rugu Hill, there are people there waiting to be released being kept there,” he said.

“But we cannot categorically say if the children have been taken there now or not but if you check, definitely others will be there. The authorities should use technology and everything on the ground to visit such places and return our people,” he said.

Another hunter said in the past six years that he had frequented the forest around Kankara LGA, he had found it to be a deep, dry forest with rocky hills and caves that serve as hideouts.

Another source from Dinya village in Danmusa LGA, which borders the forest, said it is not such a thick forest like those in the eastern part of the country.

“There are many shrubs and thorns alongside some tall trees that they usually dig underneath them to create rooms that they stick people in,” he said. ‎

With reports that hundreds of students from GSSS Kankara have been taken into the forest by bandits, it is not clear what strategy the government will use to get them back.

But unlike the Chibok abductions by Boko Haram, the bandits in Rugu Forest are motivated by their need for ransom money. They have made demands already. The ball is now firmly in the government’s court.
